KALYANI, 24 MAY: Kalyani University, in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair Global Adult Education of Malta University, recently hosted an international web fest centered around the themes of equality, democracy, and people’s enlightenment.

The event aimed to explore and celebrate the ideas of two influential thinkers, Dr. B R Ambedkar and Dr. Paulo Freire. The fest provided a platform for researchers, educators, and students to discuss various aspects of adult education and its role in promoting social justice and empowerment.
The web fest was inaugurated by Professor Manas Kumar Sanyal, the esteemed vice chancellor of Kalyani University. In his opening remarks, Prof. Sanyal emphasized the importance of spreading the ideals of Dr. Ambedkar and Dr. Freire through adult education worldwide. He highlighted the significance of empowering individuals through education, enabling them to actively participate in building egalitarian societies.
The inaugural discussion witnessed the participation of renowned scholars from various institutions. Prof. Godfrey Baldacchino and Prof. Peter Mayo from Malta University, Prof. Goutam Paul (Pro-Vice Chancellor of Kalyani University), and Prof. Ashok Battacharya (former professor of Jadavpur University) delivered insightful speeches on the festival’s central theme.
The fest attracted around 30 researchers from different countries, creating a diverse and inclusive environment for academic exchange. Scholars from countries such as the United States, Canada, England, Australia, as well as various European and Asian nations actively participated in the adult education discussions. Each researcher presented their papers, exploring various dimensions of adult education and its potential for fostering social change.
The web fest proved to be a valuable platform for teachers and students alike. By engaging with the ideas of Dr. Ambedkar and Dr. Freire, participants deepened their understanding of the significance of adult education in promoting equality and democracy.
