KRISHNAGAR, 28 DEC: The Barrackpore – Ranaghat – Lalgola Special train with new 3 Phase MEMU rakes was flagged off by MPs Jagannath Sarkar and Arjun Singh today. It is the first MEMU with energy efficient 3 phase Propulsion system has been introduced in the Sealdaha division of Eastern Railways, railway officials said.
Addressing the inaugural programme held at Barrackpore railway station, Mr Sarkar said, “Introduction of this new type of train with energy efficient system will save power and has various advanced features for more comfort and security of railway passengers.”
He also said, “India is now producing highest number of coaches across the world. As a result, Indian railway is conducting development plans at its overall system including railway tracks for high speed trains, passenger amenities, station upgradation and others.”
Praising the railway minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw for his effort to increase the rail network in the Indo-Gangetic belts, where a sizable population resides and areas continue rich with agriculture and industrial and handicrafts outputs, Mr Sarkar said, “Soon third rail track will be set up and train will reach up to Nabadwip station. The railway minister has given consent to us that the ministry will construct underpass or overpass at all major rail gates.”
Reacting to a question about the Nashipur-Azimganj rail bridge which will connect Murshidabad railway station and Azimganj railway station across the river Bhagirathi of Murshidabad district, Mr Sarkar said the rail has already completed the bridge at the cost of Rs 106 crore, but due to land acquisition problem, the route has not been initiated. We hope, the state government will take necessary steps so that the route is opened soon. In this regard, the General Mangaer of Eastern Railway Arun Aurura has taken initiative.”
Meanwhile, according to railway authority, these special coaches, compared to conventional MEMU train coaches, boast a stainless steel body along with better acceleration. The 3 Phase MEMU rake has been equipped with ethernet-based Train Control and Management system, which offers precise train control apart from the Rescue Drive Mode feature which limits the speed of the train to 60 km per hour in case of any failure in the Train network. Another key feature of these coaches is that compared to conventional MEMU coaches, they are low maintenance.
