MIDNAPORE, 20 MAR: In a rare example of courtesy, BJP MP Dilip Ghosh and Trinamul Congress MLA June Malia were seen on the same stage at the inaugural programme of Foot Over Bridge at Midnapore railway station in Midnapore today.
Amidst ‘Jay Sri Ram’ and ‘Jay Bangla’ slogans, the two leaders jointly inaugurated the project in presence of their own party supporters and officials, but the programme ended peacefully.
The Railways had invited the local MP and MLA for inaugurating the project which was completed at the cost of Rs 5 crore and it is probably for the first time, the politically rival party leaders attended a development programme irrespective of their ‘political differences and egos’.
The railways carried out the infrastructural development at platform number 3 which was much awaited.
When June Malia started addressing the ceremony, followers chanted ‘Jay Sri Ram’ and ‘Jay Bangla’. But, Malia didn’t pay any attention to these slogans. She said, “Each one of us ought to concentrate on the development work without giving priority to politics. It was the first time I met Dilip Babu. We want a pleasant atmosphere for carrying out development works meant for common people.”
Replying to a question on slogans chanted by followers of both parties, Malia said, “I don’t give much importance to these. We attended the inauguration of a development work.”
After Malia who left the stage after delivering her speech, Dilip Ghosh addressed the ceremony and said, “Many people may have been shocked to see us together on one stage. However it’s true that the central authorities, wherever this system is, call on the representatives of the native events. The state government authorities ought to be taught by watching it. We hope the state authorities will show this courtesy somewhere else as properly. There’s a need for cooperation from the end of the state government whenever it will be for development aspects for the sake of common people.”
