Kajalbabu, a dedicated educator, passed away unexpectedly in 2020 due to Covid-19. In his memory, more than 50 of his former students, led by Prof. Bikash Pal of Imperial College London, united to establish the Trust in 2021. The Trust, which occupies a 6,000-square-foot facility, aims to support underprivileged and meritorious students with scholarships, mentorship, and soft skill development. Over 300 individuals from across India and abroad have contributed to this noble cause.

In just three years, the Trust has helped numerous students gain admission to premier institutions such as IITs, NITs, and IISERs. It also rewards outstanding students annually for their academic excellence in the Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations.
The event began with a warm welcome by Mr. Jugal Pradhan, Headmaster of Dasagram SS Sikshasadan and Secretary of the Trust. Local veteran doctor Sujay Ranjan Das, who has served the community since 1963, unveiled the statue of Kajalbabu. Other notable attendees included Trust President Mr. Dipak Ranjan Pattanayak, retired Headmaster of Ramnagar Rao High School, and Prof. Niranjan Sit, Head of the Pulmonary Department at Rampurhat Medical College and Hospital.

Mrs. Dipti Dasadhikary, Kajalbabu’s wife, graced the occasion, while Prof. Bikash Pal addressed the gathering remotely from London, emphasizing the Trust’s commitment to its mission. The Second Kajalbabu Memorial Lecture was delivered by Mr. Sudhir Mal, a veteran Bengali teacher from Midnapore, who shared inspiring anecdotes about Kajalbabu’s dedication to education.

As part of the event, 10 students were honored with cash prizes and certificates for their exceptional academic achievements.
The school, established in 1928 by Gandhian follower Gopal Chandra Adhikary, has a rich history of uplifting the flood-prone, poverty-stricken region. Its first Headmaster, National Teacher Ishwar Chandra Paramanik, led the institution for 40 years, laying a strong foundation. Today, the school, with over 1,400 students, boasts modern facilities, including smart classrooms, a gymnasium, and robust sports amenities, many supported by the Trust.

The event not only celebrated Kajalbabu’s memory but also highlighted the transformative impact of education and community support in shaping future generations.
