MIDNAPORE, 14 NOV: In an effort to ignite young minds and foster an interest in space exploration, the Kajalbabu Memorial Trust (KMT) recently organized a workshop on basic space sciences for high school students at Dasagram SS Sikshasadan. Renowned scientist and former Director of the School of Nuclear Studies (2008-2021), Prof. Amitava Gupta, who currently holds the Chair of Power Engineering at Jadavpur University, led the workshop through online mode. Prof. Gupta engaged students with the fundamental science behind space vehicle launches, including insights into complex concepts like the moon landing, aiming to inspire the next generation of space researchers.
During the event, Prof. Gupta also inaugurated a smart classroom, designed to support hybrid learning at Dasagram SS Sikshasadan. The facility, funded through the Trust, is expected to enhance digital and in-person learning experiences for students.
Another distinguished speaker, Mr. Shimanta Pathak, a Marine Electrical Engineer from Kolkata, addressed the gathering, presenting scholarships to several deserving students. The scholarships, funded through the trust’s ongoing efforts, aim to support students in need of financial assistance for their education.
With support from New Way India Pvt Ltd, the Kajalbabu Memorial Trust recently renovated critical infrastructure at the school, including residential blocks. This upgrade was made possible through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund, coordinated by Kolkata-based Chartered Accountant Sk Kamal Uddin, who virtually inaugurated the facility. Additionally, a newly upgraded multi-gym facility, a boost for the students’ physical development, was inaugurated by the Trust’s President, Mr. Dipak Ranjan Pattanayak, a retired headmaster of Ramnagar Rao High School.
Mr. Jugal Pradhan, the Headmaster of Dasagram SS Sikshasadan and Secretary of the Trust, warmly welcomed the guests and emphasized the Trust’s mission to provide holistic support for students from the Sabang area. Under his leadership and with guidance from Trust members like Chief Mentor Dr. Sujay Ranjan Das and Assistant President Prof. Niranjan Sit, HoD of Pulmonary Medicine at Rampurhat Medical College and Hospital, the Trust has made strides in helping students pursue higher education and career aspirations.
Since its founding in 2021, KMT has provided scholarships, coaching, and career guidance to many economically disadvantaged students. Its establishment was inspired by the memory of the late Biswaranjan Das Adhikary (fondly known as Kajalbabu), a beloved chemistry teacher at Dasagram SS Sikshasadan who passed away in 2020 due to Covid. Kajalbabu’s legacy lives on through the Trust, as former students and supporters, including Prof. Bikash Pal from Imperial College London, continues to work actively for its growth and fundraising initiatives.
Through events like the space science workshop and the upgraded facilities, Kajalbabu Memorial Trust remains committed to enriching the educational journey of Sabang’s young learners, empowering them to dream big and achieve their goals.
