Kalyani University and ISKCON join forces to combat student stress

KRISHNAGAR, 3 MAY: In response to the escalating concerns surrounding stress among students and educational professionals, Kalyani University, in collaboration with ISKCON of Sridham Mayapur, organized a comprehensive seminar aimed at addressing stress reduction strategies. The event, held on Thursday, witnessed a confluence of academic and spiritual insights, marking a proactive approach towards tackling this pressing issue.

The initiative, spearheaded by the University’s Centre for Cultural Studies and ISKCON, garnered support from various departments within the university, including the Department of Folklore, Department of Physical Education, and the National Service Scheme. The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Amlendu Bhuiyan, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, underlining the institution’s commitment to holistic student well-being.

Distinguished speakers from both academia and spiritual spheres graced the occasion, including Tirthanga Nitai Das, Somapati Gaurang Das, and Balabhadra Gaur Das representing ISKCON, and Dr. Goutam Paul, a renowned expert from the Indian Statistical Institute of Kolkata, as the keynote speaker. Dr. Paul’s enlightening discourse delved into the identification of stress symptoms and elucidated various techniques for stress alleviation, providing attendees with actionable insights.

The interactive session that ensued saw active participation from students, who voiced their concerns and sought guidance on coping mechanisms. Dr. Paul’s adept responses further enriched the dialogue, fostering a supportive environment conducive to holistic learning and growth.

Prof. (Dr) Sujay Kumar Mandal, on behalf of the organizers, expressed the significance of addressing stress-related issues and announced plans for ongoing counseling sessions, workshops, and training camps dedicated to stress reduction. Emphasizing the importance of mental health alongside physical well-being, Prof. Mandal underscored the university’s commitment to nurturing a conducive environment for academic excellence.

The seminar drew a diverse audience comprising professors, officials, and approximately three hundred students representing various departments of the university. Feedback from attendees such as Shipra Ghosh and Kaynat Khan reflected a sense of empowerment and gratitude for the invaluable knowledge gained.

Prabhu Tirthanga Nitai Das, representing ISKCON, lauded the collaborative efforts with Kalyani University, highlighting the mutual benefit derived from addressing stress-related challenges. He extended an invitation to students to participate in ISKCON’s upcoming training camp on stress reduction in Mayapur, furthering the scope for holistic development.
