KRISHNAGAR, 21 JUNE: Kalyani University celebrated World Yoga Day today with great enthusiasm and participation. This annual event, initiated by the university’s Yoga Center, saw around four and a half hundred students and researchers coming together to practice various forms of yoga for one and a half hours.

The session was expertly conducted by the university’s esteemed yoga instructor, Pratap Santra. The ceremony was presided over by the university’s registrar, Devanshu Roy. The event also witnessed the presence of several notable figures from the university, including Professor Tapati Chakraborty, Director of the Distance Education Center, Saikat Chatterjee, Head of the Physical Education Department, Professor Sujay Kumar Mondal, Professor Neeta Banerjee from the Folk Culture Department, and Professors Sandeep Shankar Ghosh and Sushant Sarkar from the Physical Education Department. Trainers from the Physical Education Department also actively participated in the event.
World Yoga Day, celebrated globally on 21 June since 2015, emphasizes the significance of traditional yoga practices from ancient India, which are recognized by the United Nations for their importance in physical and mental well-being. The popularity of various forms of yoga continues to grow among the masses, with increasing recommendations from medical professionals for yoga as a remedy for various ailments.

In the realm of education, yoga has been incorporated into the curriculum of universities and colleges, with ongoing studies and research on the subject. Kalyani University itself offers a certificate course on yoga and frequently organizes camps to promote the practice.
Speaking on the occasion, Pratap Santra highlighted the importance of celebrating World Yoga Day, stating, “We have been celebrating World Yoga Day every year since 2015. Celebrating this day also increases awareness about yoga among students.”
The event was a resounding success, reflecting the university’s commitment to promoting the benefits of yoga and encouraging a healthy lifestyle among its students and faculty.
