KRISHNAGAR, 14 JULY: Kalyani University professors under the banner of WBCUPA on Tuesday demonstrated at university gate in protest against spiraling fuel prices.
A group of teachers drove a cattle cart from the university gate to the university administrative building to protest the rise in prices of petroleum products.
“If the prices of petroleum products continue to rise in this way, it will not be uncommon to see bullock carts on the highway”, said Dr Sujay Kumar Mondol, secretary of Kalyani university unit, WBCUPA.
Dr Mondol also said, “Increase in prices of petrol and diesel has consequent effect on prices of other commodities, as it increases the transportation cost. If the prices are not checked, common people will start agitation across the state. The teachers of various colleges and universities have already initiated protest agitation programme and it will continue until the Centre rolls back the prices.”
The Nadia district WBCUPA leaders also took part in the demonstration.
