KRISHNAGAR, 21 MAY: A PhD research scholar of Kalyani University’s Visual Arts department has lodged a complaint of repeated sexual harassment against her guide.
The student filed the complaint with the vice-chancellor of the university alleging that since her joining as a research scholar in May, 2021, her guide enforced her to be involved in sexual relations with him. The professor always used to speak words with sexual connotations, she alleged.
The student also alleged that her guide sometimes used to threat her in dire consequences if she didn’t wish to obey his ugly instruction or sometimes she had to fall prey to his lust.
Alarmed at the unpleasant turn of events during her academic pursuit, she had remained silent initially but later overcoming her shock she summoned courage to complain to a teacher of her department requesting him to install close circuit cameras at each classes of the department so that it could be reveal before others.
“Instead of installing cameras, the teacher advised me not to go against my guide if I had no evidence. He also informed that my guide would end my career because he had strong influence on many powerful persons,” said the student in her complaint.
When asked, a university teacher said on condition of anonymity that the university authority has already set up an internal investigation committee to probe the matter and the guide has also been displaced from his post.
