KRISHNAGAR, 4 AUG: Kalyani University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with West Bengal Biodiversity Board (Department of Environment, Govt. of West Bengal) and World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature-India for Nature based learning and conservation with experimental activities.
The multi-institutional MoU for a RUSA funded certificate course on Biodiversity Mapping and Conservation was signed today in the university in presence of Prof. Manas Kumar Sanyal, vice-chancellor, KU, Dr. Himadri Sekhar Debnath, chairman, West Bengal Biodiversity Board, Ms. Tripti Sah, IFS, member secretary, West Bengal Biodiversity Board, Dr. Anamitra Anurag Danda, director, Sundarban Programme, WWF-India, Prof. Debansu Ray, registrar, University of Kalyani, Prof. Tapati Chakraborty, chairperson of MoU Committee, University of Kalyani, Dr. Anirban Roy, research officer, West Bengal Biodiversity Board and others.

The 6-month course is first of its kind with three institutions taking the responsibility of training the students through different modes of curriculum transaction, including a 3-month internship with the three collaborating institutions for imparting hands-on training in biodiversity and conservation arenas.
The course will provide the students an opportunity for planning future endeavours in entrepreneurship development or train them in skills that provide employment opportunities.

“The signing of the MoU with the West Bengal Biodiversity Board is very important for us. I am pleased to have been able to sign the MoU to forge stronger cooperation and collaboration with a government department and WWF-India. This apart, we are also in the process to sign MoUs with other institutions and government departments in future in hopes to make employment opportunities and research environment among the students,” said Prof. Sanyal.
Prof. Sujay Kumar Mandal, spokesperson and director of university’s public relation cell said, “The vice-chancellor has already formed two committees to sign MoUs with different national and international institutions and organizations. These two committees are now working at their best.”
He also said, “The RUSA funded certificate course on Biodiversity Mapping and Conservation is scheduled to start very soon in the varsity’s Botany department with the advertisement for applications to be notified in the Kalyani University website.”
