Kalyani University Teachers’ Association leads march to protest RG Kar hospital incident

KRISHNAGAR, 21 AUG: The Kalyani University Teachers’ Association organized a non-political protest march on Wednesday in response to the recent rape and brutal murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital. The march saw spontaneous participation from professors, university officials, academic staff, researchers, and students across various departments, all uniting to demand justice for the victim.

The protest procession commenced from the administrative building of Kalyani University, making its way through the university premises before concluding back at the administrative building, near the ITI junction of Kalyani town. Throughout the march, participants raised their voices, calling for swift justice and the immediate punishment of those responsible for the heinous crime.

In addition to their call for justice in the RG Kar Hospital case, the marchers also highlighted concerns regarding safety within the university. An eight-point demand letter, addressing various issues within the university, was presented to the Vice-Chancellor by teachers, researchers, and students on the 12th. The primary demand stressed the necessity for the university administration to implement effective safety measures for all.

The protest activities are set to continue throughout the week. On Thursday, a mass protest will be held at the administration building, organized by the Teachers’ Association. Additionally, a pen-down strike is planned for Friday, starting at 12 noon. During these events, university professors will address various pressing issues, including the ongoing protest against the RG Kar Hospital case and broader concerns related to the university.

The protest has drawn significant attention to the need for safety and justice, as the university community rallies together in response to the tragic incident.
