KRISHNAGAR, 8 JULY: In a major boost to higher education and career readiness, Kalyani University has launched the July–December 2025 session of its tuition-free NET and SET coaching and career counselling programme, continuing a mission that has already helped over 1,250 students since its inception in early 2023.

With the first class held on Sunday, 6 July, at the Vidyasagar Hall of the university’s administrative building, the programme has once again drawn enthusiastic participation, with nearly 150 students already enrolled.

The initiative, run through the Centre for NET/SET Coaching and Career Counselling, provides targeted guidance for candidates aspiring to qualify in the National Eligibility Test (NET) and State Eligibility Test (SET) — essential qualifications for college and university teaching positions, as well as for PhD and research fellowships under the UGC.

Reflecting the university’s inclusive approach, the coaching is open not only to its own students but also to candidates from other institutions within West Bengal and even beyond state borders. The curriculum covers both the general paper and a wide range of subject-specific papers including disciplines from Bengali and Political Science to Chemistry and Environmental Science.

What makes the programme stand out is its strong academic foundation — coordinated by faculty members from various departments and supported by professors, researchers, and guest experts from across the academic spectrum. The classes are conducted in hybrid mode (online and offline) every Saturday and Sunday, accommodating the schedules of working professionals and current students alike.

Professor Sujay Kumar Mandal, Chairman of the Coaching Centre, highlighted the success of previous sessions, stating that more than 100 students have cleared NET or SET through this coaching, which charges only a nominal one-time enrollment fee — Rs 2,000 for general category and Rs 1,500 for reserved category students, with no monthly tuition fees.

Backed by the active support of Vice-Chancellor Professor Kallol Paul and university administrators, the programme has become a symbol of academic empowerment, especially for students from rural, suburban, and financially constrained backgrounds.

Due to rising interest, the university has extended the enrollment deadline till July 15, allowing more aspirants to take advantage of this rare opportunity. Information regarding admission is available on the university’s official website.

Participants from earlier batches have praised the centre’s academic rigour and its role in shaping their futures. Educationists across the state have also lauded the initiative, calling it a model aligned with the goals of the National Education Policy, and an example other universities should emulate.

With this session underway, Kalyani University once again reaffirms its commitment to creating a stronger, more equitable academic future.
