MIDNAPORE, 12 JAN: In a major breakthrough, the Kharagpur (Rural) police have arrested three persons including the prime suspect in a highway truck hijack case where the accused hijacked a truck laden with plastic granules and killed its driver.
The three accused Niranjan Shaw of Dum Dum, Sandip Jaiswal of Kharapur (Town) and Ram Mahato of Kashipur were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Midnapore where the magistrate on hearing pleas remanded them in police custody for eight days.
According to the police, one Bablu Prajapati of Titagarh in North 24 Parganas was killed by the miscreants on 24 December and his body was dumped under a culvert at Rupnarayanpur. The victim was driving a truck loaded with plastic granules from Haldia. After retrieving his body from Rupnarayanpur, the Kharagpur (Local) police initiated a probe into this matter and they arrested the prime accused and his accomplishes today.
Police said Niranjan Shaw posed as an assistant of the driver killed him and hijacked the truck on way to its destination from Haldia. Later, he dumped the driver’s body under a culvert at Rupnarayanpur and fled with the truck.
Dinesh Kumar, superintendent of police, West Midnapore said, “A specific case was started under Kharagpur local PS and investigation started thereafter by police. In a major breakthrough, principal accused and another accomplish who received the stolen plastic granule have been arrested today. Rs 3,70000 cash has been seized from the house of principal accused. He received this cash money as sale proceeded.”
