KRISHNAGAR, 7 JULY: Radharani Biswas, the prime accused of the fake government job racket, posing as a CID officer, moving around in an SUV, has been arrested by the Kotwali police this afternoon.
She was picked up from her hideout at Baigacha in Santipur after the police acting on a tip-off conducted a raid. With her arrest, the police have arrested a total of two persons till today.
The Kotwali police on Tuesday produced Rafique Mondol, driver of Radharani Biswas, before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Krishnagar where the magistrate on hearing pleas remanded him in judicial custody for a day.
The Kotwali police today once again produced him before the court with an appeal to remand him in their custody, sources said.
Rafique, who was arrested last night in connection with the fraud case where one Radharani Biswas duped several unemployed youths by impersonating as a CID officer, has conceded before the Kotwali police during interrogation that he had collected money from several youths at different times.
The driver has allegedly conceded that the money was taken from the youths on the false promise of government jobs.
Meanwhile, a CID team yesterday visited the site and collected information. Though, CID investigation has not been ordered yet, officials have collected information as the accused woman used to impersonate as a CID officer.
The accused woman reportedly extorted lakhs of rupees from several youths living across the district by promising them government jobs.
More interestingly, the woman was seen at several charitable programmes during the pandemic situation where several Trinamul Congress leaders were present.
Two complaints have already been lodged with the Kotwali police against the woman, a resident of Kanthalpota in Krishnagar, where the complainants clearly mentioned that they have been cheated by her.
One of the complainants, Gourav Chatterjee said the woman promised him a job in the health department and claimed Rs 5 lakh. “I paid the money to her and a medical test was taken at Bogula hospital where I had to pay Rs 5000 again to her associate. But, since then I have not received any appointment letter. I talked several times about my job with her, but she failed to reply any. Even, she denied returning the amount I paid. Finally, I have lodged a complaint with the Kotwali police against her on 4 July.”
The victim youth who also resides at Kanthalpota alleged that the woman often used to pose as a CID officer. Wearing police clothes, the woman used to dupe youths by making false promises of giving government jobs at various government departments along with the police department, one of the victims alleged.
He alleged the woman opened a fake website and a fake e-mail. The website was made similar to that of the state’s government’s health department website. In her website, she didn’t use Mamata Banerjee’s photo, but all other things were similar to that of the Biswa Bangla website, he said.
Several other youths who have been cheated by her have started lodging complaints with the police. Many of them have paid in the tune of Rs 12 lakhs. So far, more than 100 youths have already been cheated by the woman who promised them government jobs.
The incident triggered a political storm in Krishnagar where many Trinamul Congress leaders including a minister are allegedly involved, sources said.
Local people said the incident is similar to the case of Debanjan Deb, who posed as an IAS officer and ran fake vaccination camps in Kolkata. Debanjan had reportedly made influence with several Trinamul Congress top brasses and shared photographs of them in his social media platforms.
In this case, Radharani Biswas also made influence with Trinamul Congress leaders and shared a common platform with the leaders in charitable programmes during Covid times. She also used a costly SUV vehicle.
