KRISHNAGAR, 20 JULY: In a major drug bust, the Kotwali police on Monday night seized 200 kgs of ganja, worth Rs 50 lakh from a truck that was brought from Odisha for sale in Karimpur. The ganja, which was packed in 10 bags, was confiscated from Road Station area on the state highway in Krishnagar.
The police arrested two persons – driver and helper of the vehicle – for illegally transporting drugs. The arrested persons were produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Krishnagar, where CJM-in-charge JM Ms Rakhi Jaiswal on hearing pleas remanded them in judicial custody for 14 days.

According to a police official, the Kotwali police officials, acting on a tip-off, conducted checking of vehicles at Station Road where they found a huge quantity of ganja was being transported illegally in a truck. They seized the truck and brought it to the Kotwali police station. While unloading the consignment, they found the cannabis was packed in 10 bags each weighing 20 kgs. The bags were stuffed under dry leaves.
