Police said the accused teacher named Suman Chatterjee, a resident of Kalighat was arrested from City Center in Kolkata and he was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court in Krishnagar today. The magistrate on hearing pleas remanded him in police custody for three days, a defence lawyer said.

According to the police case (425/21 dated 1.5.2021) record, the accused teacher took Rs 11 lakhs from one Mukul Sengupta, a resident of Krishnagar on the assurance that he would return the money along with a huge amount of interest after investing the money to an organization. But, he didn’t keep his word and he didn’t wish to return the money to Mr Sengupta even after the later had repeatedly urged him to pay back his money.

On 1 May, 2021, Mr Sengupta’s son Suman had lodged a complaint with the Kotwali police against the teacher and accordingly the Kotwali police picked up the teacher from City Center in Kolkata today.

The Kotwali police slapped charges against him under sections -409, 463 and 420 Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Meanwhile, an assistant teacher of the Krishnagar Collegiate School has lodged a complaint before the district magistrate, Nadia against the headmaster Manaranja Biswas alleging that he didn’t pay the honorarium of the teachers who had served their duties as invigilators of the last Madhyamik examination.

Samir Kotal, an assistant teacher alleged that the headmaster was involved in several financial corruptions of government funds and his corruption has been proved by a team of government officials under the instruction of Nadia district magistrate.

Mr Kotal also alleged that Mr Biswas offered jobs to outsiders and retired employees on the hopes to gather support in favour of him to hide his corruption. He uses the funds meant for the teachers and hires outsiders or retired employees to finish the jobs, Mr Kotal wrote in his letter.

Meanwhile, the accused headmaster is still enjoying his post in the school even though repeated protests against him by the school teachers and a section of guardians took place.

The district administrative officials, who conducted an enquiry against him, have even kept their mouths closed when asked, but sources within the government officials said that state education department has kept the enquiry report in idle because of his ‘strong influence’ with a section of state school education department officials.
