Krishnagar Cyber Crime sleuths arrest an engineering student for posting morphed obscene photos of his girl friend

KRISHNAGAR, 17 JULY: A 22-year-old youngster from Baguihati was arrested by Krishnagar Cyber Crime police on Saturday for allegedly harassing his classmate cum girl friend by posting morphed obscene photographs and threatening to commit an acid attack on her.

The accused, Subhojyoti Ganguly, who is pursuing B Tech Engineering degree from Kalyani Government Engineering College, shared the morphed photos of the girl, a resident of Kalyani on the Instagram by using various virtual numbers. He also posted morphed photos in the victim’s Whatsapp family-group account in order to mentally harass in front of her family members.

Police seized a laptop and a mobile phone from his possession.

R K Gupta, Inspector-in-Charge of Krishnagar Cyber Crime Police Station said the accused was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Krishnagar today. The magistrate on hearing pleas remanded him in judicial custody till 31 July. He has been charged under sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and IT Act 2000.

Rana Chakraborty, the victim’s lawyer said the both are students of Kalyani Government Engineering College. During their study, a friendship developed between them. The youth, however, attracted the victim by framing a fake high profile status of his family. He even attracted the victim’s family too. Later, the victim’s family members came to know that the youth has made a false family profile before them on the pretext to win over their hearts.

They then snapped all ties with the youth.

“Since then the youth started harassing the girl by posting several morphed obscene photographs on various social media platforms including Instagram. He even threatened to commit an acid attack on her. After that, the family members lodged a complaint with the Krishnagar Cyber Crime police who initiated a probe into this matter and finally they arrested the accused from his house at Kestopur under Baguihati police station,” said Mr Chakraborty.
