KRISHNAGAR, 1 JULY: On the occasion of Doctor’s Day, Krishnagar municipality, today, launched a much hyped ‘Maa Canteen’ in the premises of the Krishnagar Sadar Hospital to provide food to the needy of the patient parties at Rs 5.
Mr Ujjal Biswas, minister of state’s correctional department, who inaugurated the canteen, said, “It is an initiative to help the poor. Many people who hail from across the district to get treatment will be benefitted. The project is the brainchild of the chief minister Mamata Banerjee who launched this project in February, last year to provide a cheap cooked meal to the poor across the state. Called “Maa”, the scheme provides state-subsidised daily meals at lunchtime to the poor.”
Mrs Rita Das, chairperson of the civic body said, “It is the second initiative on behalf of the municipality to launch such canteen which will serve cooked meals comprising of rice, dal, vegetables and egg curry every day. With this initiative, many poor people who come in the hospital will be benefitted.”
In the inaugural programme, Rikta Kundu, sabhadhipati of Nadia zilla-parishad, Kallol Khan, an MLA from Nakashipara, Ashim Saha, former chairman of Krishnagar municipality, Sisir Karmakar, councilor of Krishnagar municipality and many other dignitaries and leaders were present.
