The inauguration programme, held at Raypara–Malipara Children’s Park, was attended by state minister Ujjal Biswas, district magistrate Aneesh Dasgupta, municipal administrator and SDO Sharadwati Chowdhury, former vice-chairman Naresh Das, senior officials of the Municipal Engineering Directorate (MED), and other civic functionaries, besides local residents.

Speaking at the event, district magistrate Aneesh Dasgupta said the Pathashree roads were being implemented entirely with state government funds, underscoring the administration’s commitment to improving last-mile connectivity in municipal areas.

“Out of 27 sanctioned roads for Krishnagar Municipality, work on three has already begun earlier. Today, we are initiating construction of 20 more roads under the Pathashree project,” he said, adding that the projects would be completed in a time-bound manner so that residents could benefit at the earliest.

The district magistrate also announced that sanction for two Urban Health and Wellness Centres had been received and that their construction work was being formally initiated from the same platform. The new centres will come up at Ward No. 1 (Yogiraj Shyamacharan Lahiri Urban Health Centre) and Ward No. 24 (Dishari Urban Health Centre), strengthening primary healthcare access in densely populated neighbourhoods.

State minister Ujjal Biswas, addressing the gathering, said Krishnagar was witnessing a visible transformation driven by coordinated administrative efforts and sustained government investment.
“Over the past few months, people of Krishnagar can clearly see the change—better roads, cleaner surroundings and planned development. Roads that were once in poor condition are now being rebuilt to modern standards,” he said.

He credited chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s leadership for ensuring steady infrastructure funding and emphasised that development must ultimately serve the everyday needs of citizens.

Municipal administrator and SDO Sharadwati Chowdhury provided a detailed project briefing, stating that the Municipal Engineering Directorate (MED) was the implementing agency for all the Pathashree–IV works, with execution under close technical supervision.
She announced that the total project cost for the 20 roads stands at ₹4.17 crore, covering blacktop and cement concrete roads across 15 municipal wards.

Local residents welcomed the projects, expressing hope that the long-neglected internal roads would now receive permanent solutions, while the new health centres would ease pressure on existing medical facilities.

With the launch of the Pathashree–IV works and urban health centres, Krishnagar Municipality has set the stage for accelerated infrastructure development, combining improved road connectivity with strengthened grassroots healthcare delivery.
