Krishnagar witnesses rallies and counter-rallies following Mahua Moitra’s expulsion from Lok Sabha

KRISHNAGAR, 9 DEC: The city of Krishnagar was gripped in a frenzy of rallies and counter-rallies today, as supporters and opponents of Trinamul Congress leader Mahua Moitra clashed over her recent expulsion from the Lok Sabha. Moitra, who emerged victorious in the last parliamentary election from the Krishnagar seat, was removed from her position in the Lok Sabha amidst allegations of financial impropriety and misconduct.

The Trinamul Congress Chhatra Parishad organized a massive rally that saw thousands of students voicing their dissent against the BJP-led central government. Accusing the government of unjustly expelling their leader, the students marched from Krishnagar Government College ground to Post Office More. The demonstration turned heated as protesters burned tires and chanted slogans against the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Samrat Paul, president of Nadia north TMCP, denounced the BJP’s actions, claiming a conspiracy against Moitra. “The BJP has conspired with our leader Mahua Moitra and expelled her unethically. She was not even given a chance to submit her version in the parliament to counter the decision of the ethics committee,” he said. “We, the students, are enough to defeat the BJP in Krishnagar, and we are determined to send her back to the parliament.”

Malay Dutta, TMC’s Krishnagar town president, asserted Moitra’s popularity and her reputation for consistently challenging the BJP in parliament. “Mahua Moitra is a very popular leader known for raising her voice against the BJP. The BJP was worried about her, and that’s why they conspired to silence her.”

Sisir Karmakar, CIC member of Krishnagar municipality, expressed optimism about the ongoing movement. “Our students have woken up, and any major movement does not succeed without student participation. Our student wing has started a movement, and I hope it will be successful. We will all fight against the unethical action against Mahua Moitra, and in the forthcoming polls, she will win with a larger margin than last year.”

In response, the BJP organized a counter-rally demanding the immediate arrest of Mahua Moitra, accusing her of betraying the country by allegedly providing secret passwords to businessmen engaged in illegal activities. Arjun Biswas, the BJP’s Nadia north district president, led the rally, welcoming the center’s actions against Moitra. He alleged, “Mahua Moitra barely highlighted the issues for the development of Krishnagar in the parliament while she was engaged in raising questions for a businessman to harass the Center and PM Narendra Modi. She took bribes from a businessman for raising questions.”

As tensions rise, Krishnagar remains at the center of a political storm, with the future of Mahua Moitra’s political career hanging in the balance.
