KRISHNAGAR, 15 JAN: A professor, who has been holding the post of programme coordinator of Kalyani University’s NSS cell for more than 10 years, has not been replaced yet by the university authority while the teachers under the banner of West Bengal College and University Professors’ Association (WBCUPA) have repeatedly appealed before the vice-chancellor to appoint a new programme coordinator.

As per revised NSS manual (Page No 52-54), programme coordinator cannot hold the post more than four years (3+1). Moreover, no programme coordinator will be appointed on a permanent basis. Apart from this the age limit of the programme coordinator is 50.

The WBCUPA, Kalyani unit secretary Dr Sujay Kumar Mandal alleged that Prof Sukhen Biswas is holding the post for more than 10 years and he has also crossed the age of 50 years, but the university authority has not taken any action yet.

“We had submitted a memorandum on this matter before the vice-chancellor Prof Manas Kumar Sanyal in August, 2021, but he has not taken any step till today. We don’t know how a professor can hold such a post violating the NSS manual,” Dr Mandal alleged.

He also demanded immediate appointment of a new programme coordinator for Kalyani University NSS cell.

Dr Mandal also said they had submitted a 22-point charter of demands before Dr Sanyal in September, but most demands were not met.

When asked, Dr Sanyal said, “I have already taken initiative to appoint a new programme coordinator and an internal process has already been started in this regard.”
