MIDNAPORE, 18 MAR: Tension gripped Salboni area of West Midnapore after rumours that a landmine has been spotted under a culvert in the forest area of Ranjha along Pirakata -Goaltore road on Thursday.
On hearing the news, police from Salboni and district headquarters rushed to the spot and cordoned off the site. Police found one suspected and unattended object made out from iron pipe having to 1 foot length and about 5 kg weight, sealed from both side.
Later, police officials from Salboni PS along with CID BDDS team visited the area and disposed off the object. Police collected the sample for verification and examination by the expert of FSL. Dinesh Kumar, superintendent of police, West Midnapore said, “Apparently no harmful explosives was found during disposal by BDDS and a specific case is being started against the miscreant(s) who placed such fake I.E.D to misguide the administration and to create panic in and around.”
A day before this incident, some posters reportedly written by ultra-Left Maoists were found near the house of Chhatradhar Mahato, Trinamul Congress leader and former convenor of People’s Committee on Police Atrocities (PCAPA).
