Late-night gold smuggling bust at Dhublia market, four arrested

KRISHNAGAR, 28 DEC: In a high-octane late-night operation near Netaji Park, Dhublia police foiled an illegal gold-smuggling attempt, seizing 11 gold bars and apprehending four suspects.

The incident unfolded when a small four-wheeler was spotted idling suspiciously, shortly joined by a scooter transferring a package. Alerted officers rushed to the scene, prompting the car to flee—raising immediate suspicion. Both vehicles were intercepted and thoroughly searched.

Police recovered nine gold bars wrapped in brown tape along with two smaller bars. Verification by a certified jeweler confirmed them as genuine, while the suspects failed to produce any valid ownership documents. In addition to the gold, seven mobile phones, the four-wheeler, and the scooter used in the operation were seized.

The arrested have been identified as Rushikesh Kodam and Rohit Kundalkar of Khanapur, Sangli, Maharashtra, Amit Mondal of Nabin Birpur, Nakashipara and Rajwinder Singh of Domjur, Howrah. A case has been registered at Dhublia police station under relevant sections, and the accused have been sent to court for further legal proceedings.

A senior police officer said, the operation highlights the vigilance of Dhublia police and their decisive action against cross-state gold smuggling networks operating in the region.
