Leander Paes, Nafisa Ali joins Goa Trinamul Congress

KOLKATA, 29 OCT: Nafisa Ali, Leander Paes and Mrinalini Deshprabhu today joined Goa Trinamul Congress in presence of party supremo Mamata Banerjee at Dona Paula, Goa.

The actress activist Nafisa Ali contested from South Kolkata in 2004 against Mamata Banerjee in Congress ticket, then a brief tenure in  Swamajwadi party and joined Congress in 2009.

Nafisa Ali said, the Congress have let down  the people of Goa and that is the reason BJP has been in power to Goa. “I appreciate Mamata Banerjee’s saying that Goa is for the people of Goa. She is like the Bengal tigress who alone took on Modi-Shah and defeated them singlehandedly. This is the reason I join Trinamul Congress,” Nafisa Ali said.

Leander Paes, an international level tennis player and known to the best doubles player, said, “I live in Goa but was born in Bengal. I’ve travelled length and breadth of the nation. At the end of the day I’m a patriotic Indian. For me it’s about doing India proud and to make difference and give back to my roots. He said that he joined Trinamul Congress to fulfill Didi’s vision to make India a true democratic country.”

He said he met Mamata Banerjee when he was 18 years old and encouraged by Mamata Banerjee who was the then union sports minister.

Mrinalini Desh prabhu is a Goa based entrepreneur.
