KOLKATA, 25 AUG: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, addressing an audience at the Dhana Dhanno auditorium during an award ceremony for tele actors and directors, urged directors to refrain from highlighting crime-based stories in tele-serials due to their adverse effects on human psychology. Miss Banerjee emphasized that negative narratives tend to have a more profound impact on the mind compared to positive ones.
The event, organized by the West Bengal Tele Academy, celebrated the achievements of actors and directors in the television industry. Miss Banerjee lauded television for its significant educative value and its role in creating awareness. She pointed out that during the Covid-19 lockdown when people were confined to their homes, television serials emerged as a primary source of entertainment.
“I watch the serials and when I miss them due to my prior appointments, I make it a point to see the next day and throughout the day I think about what would be shown tonight,” shared Miss Banerjee, highlighting her personal interest in television content. She also humorously noted that many individuals exhibit more interest in serials than in news. “It is a fact that many people are interested in the serials and not on news,” she remarked with a light-hearted tone.
Miss Banerjee playfully mentioned that certain serials featuring heroes with multiple marriages and intricate family politics tend to capture the audience’s attention. She recognized the efficiency of Bengal’s actors and directors, noting their high demand in Mumbai. She expressed her belief that their talents could soon find recognition on an international scale.
Among the dignitaries present at the ceremony were Ministers Aroop Biswas and Indranil Sen, Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi, and Home Secretary BP Gopalika, along with other senior bureaucrats and police officers. The West Bengal Tele Academy, the organizing body of the event, announced plans to offer training to students in acting and various technical aspects of television production.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of awards to the best directors and actors, recognizing their outstanding contributions to the industry. Miss Banerjee’s call to focus on positive narratives in tele-serials resonated with the attendees, highlighting the influence of media on society’s collective mindset.
