KOLKATA, 14 FEB: Dedicating her parties thumping win to the people of the state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, today, called it a victory of the masses it is once again and overwhelming victory of Maa, Mati, Manush. My heartiest congratulations to the people of Asansol, Bidhannagar, Siliguri and Chandannagar for having put their faith and confidence in all India Trinamul Congress candidates in the Municipal Corporation election, she tweeted.
Addressing the media before leaving for Siliguri, Miss Banerjee said, “I am going to Siliguri for three days, have a programme at Coochbehar. I will also have to attend a Tribal Development Council meeting.”
In the coming days, 107 civic bodies in the state will go to poll. “I request the people of Bengal to vote for development of the state and I warn my workers and leaders that there should not be any violence,” she said adding “If people vote for us then we will become victorious.”
Miss Banerjee later said, “The election was held peacefully. The State Election Commission and administration played important roles to ensure people cast their votes. There was no trouble anywhere during the polling.
Criticizing the BJP, left and Congress, Miss Banerjee said BJP got votes in North Bengal including Siliguri, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and North and South Dinajpur but they have done nothing for the people. We will work for the people and give them all sorts of civic facilities. We are committed to carry forward our development work further with greater zeal and enthusiasm. The more we win the more we have to be humble,” she said.
“Duare Sarkar camps are starting from tomorrow. I am asking officials to make sure that all our schemes are running smoothly. Even though Covid cases are on the decline, utmost precaution must be taken by each one of you,” she told the Press.
Asked about the Mayor’s of these four municipalities, she declared Gautam Deb to be the Mayor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
She said in there other municipal corporations, Bidhannagar, Asansol and Chandannagore, party will meet after my return from North Bengal and will decide about the Mayor and other office bearers.
Asked whether Opposition chief ministers will meet soon, she said, “Mr KRS chief minister of Telengana, Mr MK Stalin, chief minister of Chennai stood by her after Governor of West Bengal tweeted that West Bengal Assembly is dissolved unilaterally.”
“The Opposition chief ministers will meet soon next month to raise their voices against the autocratic centre what trying to disturb the federal structure,” Miss Banerjee said.
She said, “In assembly election in UP we did not contest as I want that Akhilesh Yadav should emerge as the winner. We did not want to divide the votes so this time we did not field in any candidates. But I told Akhilesh that we will contest in Lok Sabha polls from UP.”
She said in UP this time BJP’s Hindu Muslim will not hold water. The Muslim, Jaths, Dalits, Gujjars, Thakurs and Brahmins are all grouped together against the BJP, she said.
Asked about Goa, Miss Banerjee said, “We started from scratch in Goa and only had four months in your hand to contest an Assembly poll. I am happy that now every household in Goa know my party’s name. But still I feel that Goa TMC will do much better.”
Asked whether Trinamul Congress is against the Congress, Miss Banerjee said, “Why should we be against the Congress? But the party which claims to be secular should come forward and unite all other parties to fight against the autocrat BJP at the centre.”
