KRISHNAGAR, 9 NOV: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee today lashed out at the BJP over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) alleging that it is an attempt by the saffron party “to help some people infiltrate.”
She also said BJP was “using” CAA and National Register of Citizens (NRC) with an eye on the upcoming Gujarat assembly elections. “BJP spreads canards. Now, Gujarat election is there. Then they are saying they will do it in Bengal. Let me see how you do CAA,” Miss Banerjee said.

“Will the BJP decide who is a citizen and who is not? Matuas are very much citizens of this country,” Miss Banerjee said, while addressing a mass rally organized at Krishnagar Government College ground.
“CAA is a lie by the BJP. BJP wants to bring people from outside to Bengal. BJP wants to help a few people to infiltrate in order to belittle your citizenship right,” Miss Banerjee said.

She added, “People have elected Modi as PM, elected me as CM, then how come they aren’t citizens? If you are not citizens then we can’t be leaders after winning your votes.”
“We are all citizens of India. We are getting all government schemes as beneficiaries as a citizen. BJP wants to selectively bring people here and there. That is their motive,” Miss Banerjee said while slamming the ruling party.
Miss Banerjee reached Krishnagar an hour before the lunar eclipse began yesterday for her three-day visit and stayed in the circuit house. Until the eclipse ended, it was learnt that Miss Banerjee did not speak to any of the district leaders except Mukul Roy, who had reached the circuit house earlier.

As her party’s organization is suffering from acute infighting within the party leaders in Nadia, chief minister today sent a strong message during her speech to party leaders and workers asking them to stop the infighting and to work together.
She said, “No one should bear ego while working for the party. If anyone quarrels, then I will not talk with him or her. If anyone has an ego, please take a rest in the house. All MLAs should work unitedly.”
She also formed a coordination committee to strengthen the party’s organization where Mahua Moitra has been given a charge as chairman. In the committee, other members include Rikta Kundu, sabhadhipati of the zilla-parishad and all MLAs.

After the end of the rally, chief minister went to the house of Boro Goswami where she attended the Raas Utsav. She asked the district magistrate to highlight the Raas Utsav in the state’s tourism map.
Miss Banerjee will convene an administrative meeting tomorrow in Ranaghat.
