KOLKATA, 23 MAR: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee, today, blamed the Oppositions for the violence and arson at Bagtui village in Rampurhat, terming the incident as most unfortunate.
Miss Banerjee while addressing a huge crowd at Netaji Indoor stadium, said, “We condemn such arson and violence. I will visit Rampurhat tomorrow. I had a plan to go there today but I heard two leaders of Opposition parties are going to Rampurhat via Asansol. I don’t want to get entangled in any dispute with those leaders”.
”Yesterday, as soon as I heard the news, I made at least 50 phone calls and sent my minister Firad Hakim, deputy speaker Ashish Banerjee and district president Anubrata Mondal to the spot.”
“We also take immediate action against the OC and closed him to police line. SDPO has also been transferred. I also ordered to transfer of district intelligence officer,” she said.
Lashing out at the Oppositions, Miss Banerjee said, “Those who are not in the government create such disturbances to malign a peaceful government. The Oppositions here cannot create communal disturbances or complain about people not getting ration so they are frustrated.”
The Oppositions want to disturb peace of the state by creating commotion. But they forget the idiom people living in glass houses should not throw stones at others.
“We are the ruling party, so why should our party engage in arsons and violence?” she asked.
She also slammed the electronic media for not telecasting any of her social welfare schemes including Kanyashree, Yubashree, Rupashree and Sabuj Sathi and many others.
But the electronic media are more prone to show bloodshed and violence.
She said , “In Bengal we don’t prevent the Oppositions from going to the spot but in Hathras, Unnao in UP, I sent my MPs but they barred by the state administration to visit to the victim’s house or even in their village.”
She asked, “What about Lakhimpur where farmers were mowed down by the minister’s son?” But I’m not justifying the incident, no one will be spared. DG is campaigning there and we have already formed a SIT to investigate the incident.
She also said, “In Assam too our MPs are not allowed to leave the airport when they went to meet the victims of NRC and NPR. More such incidents happen in Gujrat UP.
Without naming the Governor, Miss Banerjee said, “There is one ‘Lat shaheb ‘ who only maligns the state and state police. But here we celebrate all festivals with much gusto and police ensures that.
“Lot of conspiracy is going on, those (centre, BJP government) cannot ensure safety of the country how will they ensure safety of human beings,?” she asked.
Miss Banerjee deliberately said, “Fuel prices, cooking gas and kerosene prices shoot up just after the elections in five states so to shift focus they did this. She said the Left, Congress and BJP unitedly are conspiring against the Bengal but it is not easy to break Bengal.
She asked all her women and girls brigade to unite against any arson.
