KOLKATA, 23 JUNE: The chief minister Mamata Banerjee today lashed out at the BJP for trying to topple Maharashtra government unethically. “Democracy is being bulldozed by the BJP government. I feel very sad and it is an unfortunate fact that the federal structure of this country is being demolished by the BJP,” said Mamata Banerjee today.
In the upcoming presidential elections, the BJP is falling short in term of votes. Hence, they are picking and choosing which government to topple, so that they can get the votes needed to elect their nominee for the post of President.
They are trying to topple the Maharashtra government in an unethical manner. They are using money power to buy MLAs.
The Central agencies arrest Oppposition leaders who speak up against the BJP government’s policies. Over 200 members of Trinamul Congress have been served notices. But for BJP politicians, everything is heaven. They are distributing unlimited money. Isn’t this a form of Hawala? Isn’t this a scam that needs to be investigated?
In Assam, instead of helping the worsening flood situation, BJP leaders are busy purchasing MLAs. I would suggest them to send the MLAs to Bengal, we will give them good hospitality and also take care of democracy, said Mamata Banerjee.
It is shocking what is going on in Maharashtra. I am doubtful if there’s even an iota of democracy left in the country. Where is the justice?
If a democratic government at the Centre bulldozes state governments, what is the future? she asked.
“We seek justice for electoral mandate. We seek justice for Constitution and for Uddhav Thackeray and his govt. After Maharashtra, BJP will topple other state governments too.
They have compromised the Institutions of our country. The economic and political situation of the country is already in the doldrums, she added.
“We have seen in Tripura today – in the name of elections, they are busy rigging votes. Here after Bengal elections, these same people were crying for violence and NHRC, National Women’s Commission’s (NWC) intervention. The Centre had the audacity to send CBI too, she retorted.
Where is NCW, NHRC now? These stories need to be told to the public, she added. BJP might have the mafia and muscle power today, but one day they will be out of power. She also lashed out at BJP Tripura for unleashing terror and violence during by-poll today.
BJP goons on Thursday hurled stones at Trinamul’s Agartala candidate Panna Deb near the chief minister’s residence in Muktadhara. The miscreants attacked Deb while she was on her way to the polling stations in the Indranagar area.
“BJP’s bike bahini pelted stones at me and attacked our vehicle. I called authorities for assistance but no help from ECI and police administration there has been no action. They are still waiting on the road with stones,’ she added.
A Trinamul supporter was also thrashed by these goons,” Deb said.
On Wednesday, scores of BJP goons had attacked Trinamul candidate Arjun Namasudra threatening to kill his family if he dared to go out and vote in the by-polls.
While the party had registered complaints with the Election Commission and police authorities, no action was taken.
