NEW DELHI, 8 JUNE: A massive fire broke out at Vaishno Devi shrine complex in Jammu Kashmir’s Reasi district today, damaging a cash counter, according to reports.
Nobody was injured in the blaze, which broke out from the structure adjoining the ‘Bhawan’ (sanctum sanctorum).
It is learnt that the fire started due to a short circuit in an air conditioner. The entire hall near the natural cave was reduced to ruins.
Firemen rushed to the spot and succeeded in dousing the massive fire. No casualty has been reported.
Chief executive officer of the Shrine Board, Ramesh Kumar, said that the fire has been controlled and there were no damages and that the pilgrimage is running smoothly.
The fire started at around 4.15 pm due to a short circuit and was completely controlled by 5 pm.
“The fire hydrants were pressed into service and the fire was brought under control by 4.25 pm. No person has been injured in the fire incident,” the CEO Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board said.
He added that there has been no hindrance to the Yatra. “The Yatra to the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji is progressing smoothly.”
Meanwhile, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh took to Twitter and informed that everything is under control.
“Spoke to DC Reasi, S. Charandeep Singh just now and inquired about the fire that broke out near the Vaishno Devi shrine some time back. Thankfully, everything was brought under control. No major loss reported. However, keeping a close track for the next few hours,” he tweeted.
