MIDNAPORE, 24 FEB: The Department of English at Midnapore City College successfully hosted a two-day internal seminar on the theme “Politics of Narratives: Contextualizing Indigeneity and Cultural Anxiety in Literature” on 19-20 February. Organised in a hybrid mode, the seminar welcomed scholars, academicians, and research enthusiasts from across India and abroad, creating a vibrant space for intellectual exchange.

The event featured distinguished speakers, including Professor (Dr.) Malini Johar Schueller and Mr. Suvendu Ghatak from the University of Florida, alongside renowned national academicians such as Professor (Dr.) Madhusmita Pati from Rama Devi Women’s University, Professor (Dr.) Joyjit Ghosh and Professor (Dr.) Indranil Acharya from Vidyasagar University. Other eminent speakers included Dr. Mahendra Kumar Mishra, a UNESCO International Mother Language Awardee and folklorist, Dr. Prasenjit Panda from Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, and Dr. Subham Amin from Sri Ramkrishna Sarada Vidyamahapitha.
The seminar was convened by Dr. Rajkumar Bera and Mr. Abhishek Chakravorty, Assistant Professors of English, who highlighted its significance in bridging local cultural narratives with global academic discussions. “This seminar fosters international collaborations and enriches our intellectual community,” they remarked.
Dr. Arpita Raj and Dr. Sharmila Roy, Organising Secretary and Joint Organising Secretary, emphasized the challenges and rewards of hosting such an event in a rural setting. “The enthusiasm and support from all involved made this a rewarding experience, proving that collaboration can overcome obstacles,” they shared. Their sentiments were echoed by Mr. Biswadeb Rajbanshi, Assistant Professor of English and Treasurer of the seminar.
The event was graced by the presence of Chief Patron Dr. Pradip Ghosh, Founder Director of Midnapore City College, who expressed his gratitude to the distinguished speakers, participants, and organizing team. “This seminar marks a significant step towards academic growth and international collaboration for our institution,” he stated.
Dr. Sudipta Chakrabarti, Principal, and Dr. Kuntal Ghosh, Vice Principal, served as the Patron and Co-Patron, respectively, while Mr. Abhishek Das, Assistant Registrar, contributed as Co-Treasurer. Their collective efforts ensured the smooth execution of the seminar, further cementing the institution’s commitment to fostering meaningful academic dialogue.
