KRISHNAGAR, 29 MAY: Kanyashree University, a brainchild of chief-minister Mamata Banerjee, continues to make strides in empowering women through education. In a remarkable event held on Monday, the university authorities unveiled a book titled ‘Empowerment of Women in Education,’ aimed at accelerating women’s progress in higher education. The book was inaugurated by Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra, highlighting the significance of empowering women through education.

The event commenced with Ms Moitra ceremoniously lighting a lamp, symbolizing the enlightenment and progress brought about by education. Present at the occasion were distinguished guests, including Kanyashree University Vice-Chancellor Professor (Dr) Mita Bandyopadhyay, Controller of Examination Anjan Kumar Dan, Circle Officer Manojit Kumar Das, Professor of Education Department Dr Aniruddha Saha, and several others.
Ms Moitra focused on the importance of women’s empowerment in her speech, highlighting the message conveyed by the book ‘Empowering Women through Education.’ She praised Kanyashree University for its commendable contributions to the field of higher education and expressed hope that women would receive quality education, enabling them to lead society in the future.
She stressed the importance of providing a protective space for women, enabling them to voice their opinions freely. She emphasised the need for dedicated institutions exclusively for women, where they can engage in open dialogue and exchange ideas without inhibitions.
Ms Moitra highlighted the role of educated individuals in society, reminding the gathering of their responsibility to contribute positively to their communities and families. She emphasized that the knowledge acquired during their studies should be utilized to bring about positive change within society.
Vice-Chancellor Mita Bandyopadhyay shared insights into the university’s journey, which began in 2020, as a brainchild of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Despite not having a permanent building or a full-fledged faculty, the university has successfully operated with an enrollment of approximately 1000 students. Currently, the university offers ten subjects for master’s degrees and two certificate courses, catering to diverse academic interests.

She stated, “Kanyashree University has been actively contributing to higher education in various ways. We are dedicated to educating women and empowering them to establish their presence in society, ensuring a strong foundation for women’s future success.”
In addition to the book release, the event witnessed the inauguration of a website for the university’s alumni. This website holds significant value as it enables former students to stay connected, fostering a sense of community and collaboration among Kanyashree University graduates.
