KRISHNAGAR, 27 JAN: Krishnagar Government Girls’ High School, a renowned institution with a prestigious history, finds itself at the center of a security crisis following a recent theft incident. While the school authorities are downplaying the incident, sources within the institution suggest a possible suppression of information, leaving the community in suspense.
The incident, which occurred on the night of 6 January, involved a break-in where the perpetrators strategically disabled the CCTV cameras by damaging the camera machine. The burglars then targeted the school office, breaking into two almirahs. Surprisingly, the thieves chose to loot cash from only one almirah, leaving an iron vault untouched. The total amount stolen is reported to be Rs 2.5 lakh.
Head Mistress Ms Pratyusha De, when asked, stated, “The thieves damaged the CCTV camera machine and stole cash totaling Rs 2.5 lakh. We promptly lodged a FIR with the Kotwali police, and they have initiated a thorough investigation.”
This incident marks only the second time in 15 years that the school has faced a theft, as confirmed by Ms. De. Notably, the school lacks a security guard following the retirement of its lone guard. This absence of on-site security has raised questions about the vulnerability of the institution, especially considering its esteemed status.
While the police have initiated a probe into the matter, there seems to be a significant lack of progress in apprehending the culprits. A senior police officer, involved in the investigation, revealed that initial findings suggest the involvement of someone associated with the institution rather than an outsider. The officer mentioned, “Prima facie, it appears that an employee of the institution is involved in the crime.”
The alleged suppression of information by the school authorities has fueled speculations about the possible reasons behind such secrecy. Concerns are mounting within the community regarding the true extent of the incident and the effectiveness of the ongoing police investigation.
Parents, students, and local residents are eagerly awaiting further developments in the case, hoping for swift action to restore the security and reputation of the Krishnagar Government School. As the investigation continues, the spotlight remains on the school administration and the police to provide clarity on this disconcerting incident.
