One more feather in the crown to Makaut

KRISHNAGAR, 20 FEB: In a historical move, the Department of Renewable Energy Engineering at Moulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) inaugurated the Solar Energy Society of India (SESI) Student Chapter at its campus in Haringhata, Nadia, today.

The event was graced by the presence of Prof. Saikat Maitra, Vice-Chancellor of Makaut, Prof. S M Ali, Director General of SESI, New Delhi, Mr. Sushanta Biswas, Assistant Director of West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency (WBREDA), Mr. Praful Pathak, President of SESI and Prof. Partha Pratim Lahiri, Registrar of Makaut.

Prof. Ali expressed his excitement by stating that SESI has opened a Student Chapter in a government university for the first time in the country, and Makaut will be the regional center of SESI in eastern India. He further added that all works related to renewable energy in this region will be convened from Makaut.

Prof. Maitra also spoke on the occasion and said that this is a historic day for the university and the society at large. He emphasized that all students of Makaut, as well as the society, would benefit from this step.

The university also organized a one-day seminar on “Battery, the next-generation storage solution for Electric Vehicles (EVs)- a techno-commercial prospect.” Prof. Maitra highlighted that the students would have exposure to the sunrise industry and participate in various activities such as lectures, seminars, conferences, and exhibitions supported by SESI.

SESI, established in 1978, has its Secretariat in New Delhi and is the Indian Section of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES). The society’s interests cover all aspects of renewable energy, including characteristics, effects, and methods of use. It provides a common ground to all those concerned with the nature and utilization of this renewable, non-polluting resource.

The society is interdisciplinary in nature, with most of the country’s leading energy researchers and manufacturers of renewable energy systems and devices as its members. Anyone engaged in research, development or utilization of renewable energy or in fields related to renewable energy and interested in the promotion of renewable energy utilization can become a member of the society.

With the establishment of the SESI Student Chapter at Makaut, the university is set to make a significant contribution towards the promotion of renewable energy utilization in eastern India.
