KRISHNAGAR, 13 APRIL: A 45-year-old widow, who was out on a morning walk, was shot dead allegedly by her neighbourer on Wednesday at Palta Ghat under Nabadwip police station limits in Nadia.

Within six hours following the incident, the Nabadwip police arrested one Naba Kundu, a neighbourer of the deceased from his house who committed the crime.
Ishani Paul, Superintendent of Police, Krishnagar Police District said, “This morning, we received information that a woman was found shot dead on the road. We started a probe into this matter and found one Naba Kundu, a neighbourer, who had relations with the deceased, had committed the crime. We arrested him and recovered the firearms and ammunition from his house. We will further investigate whether any other person was involved with this crime.”
Ranu Bairagya, a resident of Fulbagan in Nabadwip was out on a morning walk when her neighbourer, Naba Kundu opened fire at her head from very close range leaving her dead. Local residents who first looked the body lying on the road with a pool of blood informed the police who reached the site immediately and retrieved the body. She was then taken to the Nabadwip hospital where the doctor declared her brought-dead. The body has been for autopsy.
Ramen Bairagya, son of the deceased, said that her mother used to cook at someone’s house. His father died two years ago. Since then, Naba used to disturb her mother. “Whenever my mother goes out of the house for her job, he used to follow her. My mother did not like him. This morning, like other days, my mother went out for a morning walk from our house. We were then asleep. Later, we heard that my mother was killed by someone,” he said.
