A fake police dress with badges, fake ID cards and appointment letters have been seized from his possession. The fake officer has been identified as Anirban Bairagya, a resident of Panchdara under Palashipara police station limits and he duped the youths by promising that he can influence the railway boards for recruitment.

He was produced before the Tehatta Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court today where the magistrate on hearing pleas remanded him in police custody for five days, a lawyer said.

According to the police, the youth had married a woman a few years ago but his spouse left him within a few months. He again married a woman a few months ago and started living with her at Dhubulia where he recently met one Biplab Pramanik whom he informed that he was posted as a special officer in CBI.

Later, the accused lured Pramanik, informing that he could influence the railway boards for recruitment. Accordingly, he collected Rs 20000 from him and promised a job in the railways within three months.

The accused also asked Pramanik to bring unemployed youths seeking jobs to him as he has scope for recruitments in the railways. Keeping faith on his words, Pramanik contacted one Bithika Pramanik of Patharghata in Tehatta and Sukanta Adhikari of Burdwan. The accused also collected Rs 10000 from Bithika and Rs 40000 from Sukanta as advance on his fake promise of railway jobs.

After three months when no one got any jobs in the railway, they realised that they had been cheated. Yesterday, the three victims approached the Palashipara police and lodged a complaint against Bairagya. Based on the complaint, police raided the house of the accused and arrested him.
