The incident took place at atime when Bollywood star Mithun Chakraborty is scheduled to conduct a roadshow in Keshpur this afternoon.

BJP leaders held the Trinamul Congress responsible for the incident. “They (TMC) hurled bombs at the houses of our party workers last night. They even ransacked the houses and intimidated them on dire consequences if they supported BJP,” said Tapan Das, a BJP leader.

Trinamul Congress, however, rubbished the allegation saying that the incident was the fallout of the internal feuds of the local BJP unit.

A large section of security forces have been deployed as Keshpur is known as a land of fierce political violence over decades.

Meanwhile, hours after the end of the first phase assembly polls in 30 Junglemahal seats, political clashes between TMC and BJP supporters have been reported from Chandrakona area in West Midnapore today. At least four BJP workers have been injured. One of them has already been sent to the Midnapore Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) for treatment.

Expressing anguish over incidents of violence in the run-up to the West Bengal Assembly elections, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday asked the police and administration to remain politically neutral.

“Anguished and concerned at violence @MamataOfficial in Election process. Democracy has no meaning without fair elections,” he said on Twitter.
