KRISHNAGAR, 3 JULY: Trinamul Congress leader Partha Chatterjee on Sunday advised Amit Shah to pay more attention to his party’s family, after the senior BJP leader and Home Minister asserted during its National Executive Committee meeting in Hyderabad that the party will end ‘family rule’ and form government in West Bengal.

“Trinamul Congress is a big family. In the last 2021 election, Shah had stated that they would get 200 seats. During that time, they brought many Central ministers and BJP leaders in West Bengal for election campaign. The situation was such that they campaigned in almost every area. But, people in Bengal favoured the Trinamul Congress and cast their franchises in favour of Mamata Banerjee’s party. So, he should focus on his party’s family rather than commenting on Trinamul Congress,” Mr Chatterjee said.

Mr Chatterjee came here to attend the party’s preparatory meeting organized for the occasion of 21st July Martyr’s Day rally.
TMC observes 21 July as Martyr’s Day every year in remembrance of the 13 people who were killed at a Youth Congress rally in police firing in 1993 during a rally organised for demanding that voter identity cards be made the sole required document for voting for fair polling. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee was then the leader of the West Bengal Youth Congress.
When asked why Amit Shah paid more interest on Bengal during his party’s national executive committee meeting, Mr Chatterjje said, “Bengal is the only state who can speak with its head held high. Mamata Banerjee is the only leader who knows how to make protest against the BJP’s undemocratic and religious politics. BJP is afraid because Bengal people have extended their support to Mamata Banerjee and because of this reason they are desperate to destroy the unity of Bengal people.”
He also said, “BJP’s politics of dividing people along religious lines will not work in West Bengal and the people of the state will defeat the sinister designs of BJP.”
“We are ready for any challange as the people of the state are with us. The central government pursues the policies of depriving the states ruled by opposition parties and the same treatment has been meted out to the TMC government in Bengal during the past years of Modi’s regime,” he said.
