KRISHNAGAR, 8 OCT: The Kotwali police have arrested four persons and seized 6000 bottles of Phensedyl, an addictive cough syrup which were transporting in a truck along National Highway-34 today. The police have also seized the truck.
Acting on a tip-off, the Special Operation Group (SOG) officials of Krishnagar Police District waylaid a truck near Tara Ma hotel at the outskirts of Krishnagar and carried out a search operation. They found a huge number of bottles of Phensedyl was being transported without valid documents of consignment. They then informed the Kotwali police who arrested four persons travelling in the truck and seized the materials, a police officer said adding that the seized materials are worth Rs 12 lakh.
The final destination of the consignment was Bangladesh where the cough syrup has an immense demand. The Border Security Force (BSF) and the police have been regularly seizing drug consignments, mainly Phensedyl, being smuggled into Bangladesh from different border locations in Nadia.
