The team comprised of Lok Sabha MPs Dr Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Apurupa Poddar,Sajeda Ahmed, and others.

Ms Aparupa Poddar alleged that BJP government and Delhi Police is scared of the truth of the violence being exposed if the delegation was allowed to meet the victims.

Trinamul MPs said, “The BJP at the Centre had blatantly flouted the Supreme Court order and went on bulldozing in Jahangirpuri. They said it’s a fall out of the violence that took place in Jahangirpuri during the Hanuman Jayanti procession.

A picture of Ansar Sheikh, one of the prime accused in the case related to the communal violence in North Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on 16 April has surfaced, where Sheikh is seen with BJP leaders.

With photos of Sheikh emerging with BJP leaders, it shows a completely different picture of Sheikh’s political affiliation.

Senior AITC leader and West Bengal Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee said the priority for the police should be to ensure justice. “The perpetrators must be adequately punished! Here, we see how Ansar has been closely associated with BJP leaders. Let’s not have a one-track mind,” Chatterjee tweeted.

President of Indian National Trinamul Trade Union Congress’ West Bengal chapter, Ritabrata Banerjee, stated that Ansar Sheikh was close to BJP leaders and the emergence of the new photos clearly show that BJP was running its same old propaganda.

AITC State spokesperson Samir Chakraborty said, “BJP is a party that is known to spread hate among people, create chaos and promote violence. Let justice prevail.”

Bidhannagar MLA Sujit Bose, meanwhile, claimed that ensuring justice was the priority for Trinamul Congress. “Ansar could be a repeat offender. He has been seen with people from BJP as well… Let’s not misplace our priorities!” he wrote on the micro-blogging site.

As many as eight police personnel and a civilian had sustained injuries in the communal clashes that took place on 16 April. Delhi Police, had on Sunday, arrested 35-year-old Sheikh for his role in the clashes.
