KRISHNAGAR, 22 APRIL: Trinamul Congress MLA Tapas Saha, representing Tehatta constituency in Nadia, has raised conspiracy charges against a section of his own party, adding another twist to the ongoing political drama in West Bengal.
Saha’s house was raided by a team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday afternoon, and the search continued for about 14 hours before the investigators left his home around 6 a.m. today.
In a tearful voice, Saha pleaded with the media not to leave the party, claiming that he was being framed.
“I am a victim of conspiracy hatched by my own party leader from the district Tina Bhowmik Saha and her associates. They have joined hands with BJP in conspiring against me.” Saha said.
Speaking to the media persons, Saha did not hide his grievance against his own party leadership for not standing by him or even contacting him during this moment of crisis. “No one from the party contacted me. I am saying it again that I am a victim of conspiracy hatched by a section within my own party,” Saha said.
“No one called me. Regrets, regrets! Made the fight even more difficult.” When asked why he did not try to communicate with the party, Saha replied, “What do I need? I need them!”
However, he expressed his confidence over the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and said that he will continue with his struggle against this conspiracy against him with her blessings.
He stated that the CBI team wanted to see documents related to his bank account and conducted searches in his office, bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. The investigators even went to his alma mater, Dr. BR Ambedkar College, where Saha was once a student and now serves as the president.
It should be noted that Saha’s name has been linked to a teacher recruitment corruption case, where he has been accused of taking money in exchange for jobs and issuing fake employment letters. The investigation of this case has been handed over to the CBI, which led to the search operation at Saha’s residence.
During the raid, the CBI seized two of Saha’s mobile phones, prompting him to purchase a new, simpler phone to communicate with his family. Saha claimed that he bought the phone for personal use and not for any nefarious purposes.
Meanwhile, the CBI officials after leaving Saha’s residence raided the houses of one Prabir Kayal, a former personal secretary of Saha and Iti Sarkar, a Trinamul Congress leader.
This latest development has added further turbulence to the already volatile political landscape in West Bengal, where the Trinamul Congress and its leaders have been facing allegations of corruption and infighting. The situation continues to unfold, and the political future of Tapas Saha remains uncertain as the investigation progresses.
