MIDNAPORE, 3 MAY: With the election results came to an end, violence rocked at different parts across the East Midnapore district including Nandigram where the BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari defeated the Trinamul Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee in nail-biting finish.
Reports of violence came from Desapran, Patashpur, Khejuri, Nandigram, Haldia and Bhagwanpur blocks where hundreds of houses belonging to the BJP workers were ransacked, several shops were looted, several BJP party offices were either torched or ransacked.
In Nadigram, angered Trinamul Congress workers ransacked the party office of Suvendu Adhikari. They also carried out tortures on several BJP workers at Sonachura. They also looted shops belonging to the BJP workers.
In Desapran block, the Trinamul Congress workers unleashed terror at Mukundabar, Hatisal Bazar and Basudevberia. Several BJP workers were beaten up. Their houses were ransacked.
At least 12 BJP party offices have been ransacked or set on fire in Nandigram, Dukhia and Satsomal areas. Hundreds of houses of BJP workers have been ransacked at Satsomal in Patashpur, Kalagachi in Khejuri, Sonachura in Nandigram and in Haldia Township area.
A BJP leader alleged that Trinamul Congress workers unleashed terror in the areas where they have lost the elections.
The BJP leader has accused TMC workers of torching its offices and attacking party workers at least 15 places in the district. At least 35 people have suffered injuries as a result of the violence. Among the injured, eight people have been admitted to the hospitals.
Meanwhile, Trinamul Congress workers are staging protest agitation in front of the counter center in Haldia demanding the recounting of the Nandigram results.
