KRISHNAGAR, 29 JULY: AIIMS Kalyani will hold its first-ever convocation ceremony tomorrow, marking a historic milestone in the institute’s journey since its inception. The convocation, scheduled to begin at 1 pm at the institute campus, will be graced by the President of India, Ms Droupadi Murmu, who will attend as the chief guest.
The ceremony will witness the graduation of 48 MBBS students of the inaugural 2019 batch, along with 9 PDCC (Post-Doctoral Certificate Course) scholars. Dr. Kalarab Mukherjee will be conferred with the best outgoing student medal, in addition to awards for three other meritorious students.
“This convocation is not just a ceremonial event, it is the reflection of our commitment to excellence in medical education and service to the nation,” said Prof Ramji Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Kalyani, while addressing a press conference at the campus today.
The event will also be attended by several high-ranking dignitaries, including Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose, Governor of West Bengal; Mr Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare; Ms Chandrima Bhattacharya, Minister of State for Health, Government of West Bengal; and Mr Shantanu Thakur, Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
Prof Kalyan Goswami, Dean Academics, highlighted the significance of the occasion, stating, “This is a proud moment not only for our students but for the entire institution. We are witnessing the fruition of a vision laid down years ago.”
Dr Pradip Kumar, Deputy Director (Administration); Dr Sukanto Sarkar, Public Relations Officer; and Dr Farhad Ahmed, Assistant PRO, were also present at the press meet, outlining the preparations and security arrangements ahead of the high-profile event.
AIIMS Kalyani, one of the newer institutes under the prestigious AIIMS umbrella, has rapidly emerged as a hub of academic and clinical excellence in Eastern India. The upcoming convocation is expected to draw participation from leading figures in medicine, public health, and governance, and will serve as a moment of inspiration for the region’s aspiring medical professionals, an AIIMS authority said.
