During the summit, Prime Minister Modi commended the Quad countries for translating their vision of a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific into tangible actions. He emphasized that the Quad has evolved into a platform that promotes peace, stability, and progress in the region. Undoubtedly, the Quad has become an engine for bilateral trade, innovation, and growth, he added.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated that the Quad would continue working towards the common goals of global welfare, prosperity, and peace. He expressed India’s willingness to host the next summit, further highlighting the nation’s commitment to the Quad’s objectives.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida underscored the importance of listening to the voices of regional countries, particularly those from ASEAN, South Asia, and the Pacific island states. He emphasized the Quad’s dedication to practical cooperation that brings true benefits to the region, positioning it as a force for good.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed his delight at reuniting with close friends. He emphasized that the Quad stands united in its commitment to an open, stable, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. In this vision, respect for sovereignty and the mutual benefits derived from regional balance play a vital role, regardless of a country’s size.

Originally scheduled to take place in Sydney on May 24, the Quad Summit was relocated to Hiroshima due to President Biden’s inability to travel to Australia due to domestic issues. Hiroshima, which is concurrently hosting the G7 Summit, served as an alternative venue for the high-level meeting.

The Quad Summit demonstrated the continued commitment of its member countries to collaborate and address regional challenges effectively. As China’s posture becomes increasingly tough on maritime and territorial issues, the Quad reaffirms its role as a key driver of peace, stability, and progress in the Indo-Pacific.
