MIDNAPORE, 22 AUG : The campus of Raja Narendralal Khan Womens’ College (Autonomous) was adorned with festive fervor as the esteemed institution celebrated its 67th foundation day and held the second convocation ceremony on Tuesday. The event took place at the Bidhanchandra Roy Memorial Auditorium, where a series of activities unfolded to commemorate the occasion.
The inaugural phase commenced with a Mangalik program, setting a spiritual tone for the day. During this phase, the official publication of the college magazine, Sanghita and Anudhyan, took place, marking a significant step in the academic community’s literary pursuits. The ceremony also included the felicitation of 11 accomplished PhD degree recipients, acknowledging their commitment to scholarly excellence. Additionally, the teaching staff members who demonstrated unwavering dedication over 25 years of service were honored for their profound contributions.
In the second phase of the event, Vidyasagar University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sushant Kumar Chakraborty, took the stage to inaugurate the convocation ceremony. The chief guest for the event was Professor Dhrubhajyoti Chattopadhyay, Vice-Chancellor of Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata. His presence lent a prestigious touch to the occasion. Dr. Annapurna Chattopadhyay, a distinguished historian, was recognized and awarded the Stri-Shakti Award for her exceptional endeavors in advancing women’s education.
Prof. Jayashree Laha, the principal of the college, underlined the significance of the day, noting that this marked the second convocation ceremony of the year. The event extended beyond its celebratory aspect as it also served as a platform to confer degrees upon the accomplished students of this year. The institution, in collaboration with Vidyasagar University, exhibited remarkable dedication by awarding degrees to female students across two consecutive academic years. Students who were unable to attend the convocation ceremony would receive their certificates in a dedicated ceremony scheduled for the upcoming Sunday.
The convocation ceremony witnessed the conferral of certificates to a total of 1092 graduates who successfully completed their studies during the academic years 2019-2022, 2020-2023, as well as postgraduate degree recipients from the academic years 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. A moment of pride was the awarding of gold and silver medals to 142 students for their exemplary achievements.
A remarkable feat was highlighted by the college authorities – a 200 percent increase in the number of students receiving bachelor’s and master’s degrees compared to the previous year. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sushant Kumar Chakraborty delivered a resounding message to the college, urging them to strive for research excellence and reach new heights.
Speaking to the audience, Professor Dhruvjyoti Chattopadhyay emphasized the enduring impact of education. He affirmed that education empowers students throughout their lives and extends beyond the classroom into societal realms. He lauded the potential of educated women in uplifting family, society, and the nation’s socio-economic landscape. Professor Chattopadhyay encouraged students to embrace nature, harness technology, and progress toward a brighter future.
