KRISHNAGAR, 18 JULY: In a shocking incident, bodies of two newborn babies were recovered under mysterious circumstances from the bank of Bhagirathi river at Char Swarupganj under Nabadwip police station limits on Sunday morning.
Tension brewed up soon after the news spread in the locality. Later, Nabadwip police reached the site and retrieved the bodies.
A police official said the bodies of two newborn babies have been sent to the Saktinagar district hospital in Krishnagar for autopsy.
Local residents said a man who went to bathe at around 6 am first spotted the bodies floating on the river at its bank near Palpara Char Swarupganj. The news spread in the locality like wildfire. Hundreds of local residents assembled near the Bhagirathi bank. Later, police reached there and recovered the bodies, said Partha Biswas, a local resident.
Police officials said the bodies may float downstream or any one may dump the bodies of their loved ones.
