KRISHNAGAR, 22 SEP: Traffic movements were grossly affected as hundreds of local residents put up a road block on the Krishnagar-Nabadwip state highway for around six hours following an accident near helipad ground under Kotwali police station limits today.

Trouble broke out when two speeding trucks collided head on near helipad ground at around 11.30 am on the Krishnagar-Nabadwip state highway leaving a person critically injured. The police officials being informed about the incident reached the site soon, but rescued one of the drivers trapped on the steering seat. The driver was immediately taken to the Saktinagar district hospital and his one of the legs could be amputated, an official said.
Minutes after the incident, local residents put up a road block on the high way demanding a setting up a speed breaker or bumper on that site to minimize accident.
Locals alleged that accidents frequently occur in the area while the police or the administration has done nothing to restrict the speed of the vehicles.
In the evening, the protesters withdrew the blockade after the administration assured them that they would set up a speed breaker on the site.
