KALYANI, 3 MARCH: Professor Saikat Maitra has been granted a second term as Vice-chancellor of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT). Maitra will now head the varsity till February 2025.
Teachers, students and other members of the university welcomed him with flowers at its Haringhata main campus in Nadia today.
Prof. Maitra is a renowned academician. He is a Chartered Chemical Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Engineers (India). He has filed two patents, authored three books and three book chapters. He has received the S.S. Bhatnagar Memorial award for the year 2018-2019 for his contribution to research in the field of Chemical Engineering and Technology.
During his speech at Haringhata campus, Prof Maitra said, “On behalf of all my colleagues at the university, we all will work harder to become the university that matters. We are remaking how our young students learn and what they learn. We are working to build a serious multi-disciplinary academic center in West Bengal.”
He called the workers to do work from heart to take forward the various projects taken during his first term. He said, “Do not just discharge the jobs for salary but love the job. That will take the university to a better position.”
He sought proposals of new ideas from all level workers from their concerned fields.
He also announced that he would conduct a two-day long training program for the skill development of the workers in MAKAUT including knowledge enhancement in English.
Later the Registrar Prof Partha Pratim Lahiri in his speech stated that the two programs for the training of workers will take place in this very month on basic Computer knowledge and English.
The Assistant Registrar, Anup Mukherjee assured the VC that they would work together to develop the Technology University to an incredible level.
