KRISHNAGAR, 10 JULY: Scores of people who queued in front of the vaccination center at Sadar hospital in Krishnagar for the second shot of the jab launched an agitation in front of hospital superintendent office after they were refused by the authority to get the required dose of the vaccine.
The agitating people including aged persons alleged that they had lined up since morning and by afternoon, the queue had turned serpentine. All of a sudden, a staff assigned for the center started counting heads and assured that most of the people will get vaccines. After a while, he asked the people to keep their Aadhar cards in their hands and to wait. Within ten minutes, the staff again came out from the center and started collecting the aadhar cards from the beneficiaries. After collecting 15 cards, he announced that the rest of the people who were in the queue could go to their homes because the turnout outnumbered the allotted doses (350 jabs) for the day. He also asked the people to come on Monday.
“But, as the Ratha Yatra will be celebrated on Monday, we asked him whether the center will remain open or not. He replied that he was not authorized to tell anything on the query. We have been lining up since morning, leaving all our daily work. At the end of the day, they announced that they have covered 350 doses. It is complete harassment to us,” said one Khokon Biswas, who came to the center in the morning to get the second dose of the jab.
The agitation erupts at a time when the administration conducted the first meeting of the newly formed Rogi Kalyan Samity (RKS) at the conference room of the Sadar hospital. The RKS meeting was attended by the chairman Mahua Moitra, MP, district magistrate, Shashank Sethi and other top health officials.
The agitating people went in front of the conference room and started agitation.
Later, the hospital authority to contain the situation arranged a few jabs for the agitating people.
