KALAIKUNDA, 24 APRIL: In a dazzling display of aerial prowess, fighter jets from the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the United States Air Force (USAF) soared through the skies over Kalaikunda Air Force Station in Paschim Medinipur district as part of the highly anticipated Cope India 2023 joint exercise.

The skies roared as five top-notch fighter jets from both nations, including the indigenous Tejas, the formidable Rafale, the versatile Jaguar, the powerful Su-30 MKI from the IAF, and the mighty F-15 from the USAF, took off in quick succession, showcasing their cutting-edge capabilities.
The exercise, which commenced on 10 April and ended today, witnessed thrilling maneuvers, precision aerial combat drills, and coordinated missions, highlighting the seamless coordination and interoperability between the two air forces. The pilots showcased their exceptional skills, pushing the limits of their aircraft to demonstrate their combat readiness and enhance mutual understanding.
What makes Cope India 2023 even more special is the first-time participation of IAF’s Rafale aircraft, the Make in India Light Combat Aircraft – Tejas, and the F-15 E Strike Eagle from the USAF. This bilateral exercise aims to enhance Indo-US cooperation through the exchange of Air Combat Employment philosophy, enhancing existing capabilities, and mutual understanding of Force Employment.
Over the past two weeks, the skies over Kalaikunda witnessed intense flying operations, with fighters, transport aircraft, and force multipliers working in tandem to enhance their combat employment philosophy in a Large Force Package. A total of 24 fighter aircraft, 8 transport aircraft, and 2 force multipliers from both air forces participated in the exercise, with 564 personnel from the IAF and USAF showcasing their skills and expertise.
“This exercise has been a unique opportunity for the IAF and the USAF to train together and learn from each other’s best practices. It has been a testament to the strong and growing partnership between the two nations,” said an official from the IAF.
In addition to the fighter jets, a simultaneous 12-day exercise of transport aircraft was held at Panagarh Air Force Station in Paschim Bardhaman district, further enhancing the joint capabilities of the two air forces.
The Cope India exercise has been a long-standing tradition between the IAF and the USAF, aimed at promoting cooperation, interoperability, and mutual understanding. The successful conclusion of this year’s exercise on Monday marks another milestone in the strategic partnership between India and the United States, further cementing their commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the region.
As the fighter jets returned to the tarmac after an adrenaline-pumping display of aerial prowess, the air was filled with a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose, reflecting the strong bond and mutual respect between the two air forces.
